I am doing a project and have to come up with 5 items that enhance a child’s literacy in each of the following areas:
Blocks
Discovery
Music
Cooking
Sand/Water
Art
Library
Dramatic Play
Computers
Toys/Games

For example, I have books about occupations in the dramatic play area and I have sheet music in the music area. I also have boxes of different foods in the cooking area. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I AM SO STUCK!

Many thanks in advance!! =)

We gave my 3 month old son a playmat/discovery gym with the little toys hanging so he can lay on his back and reach for the toys or practice tummy time and he loves it – the problem is, my 1 1/2 yr old daughter thinks its one of of her toys and the poor thing’s been through hell, she walks on it w shoes on an drags it all through the house …it’s becomming so filthy that it’s probably got more germs on it than the floor! Does anyone have any advice on how to clean it without using harsh cleaners that can irritate my babys skin?
Also, how about cleaning the battery powered stuffed animals?

And believe that we as American deserve great pay and benefits.

Yet now the Capitalist pigs in China are sending spies into our factories, ripping off the ideas, and by this time next year they’ll be showcasing vehicles that any average American can afford? Doesn’t it suck that they want to be the leading car maker of the world, and put everyone else out of business, This assault on the industry is targeted mainly towards America?

Doesn’t it suck that some of the ideas they ripped off from us are being recalled because of malfunctions that kill children?

Poison dog food, leaded painted toys.

Doesn’t it suck that we trusted the Chinese as a world power, and a country we needed to industrialize for the benefit of the global market, yet now they are shaking the hands of the Russians and Iranians?

You know the only Asian government we can trust is the Japanese, and they were the only country to successfully bomb ours.

Who should we thank for this?

please read my personal story and help me with my grammer or wording…..Thanks!!

Might want to copy past and just write it over again

Hi my name is Sam Johnson and I’m 25 years old. The last 5 years of my life has been one heck of a ride. I remember way back, when I was younger I was 10 years old and my parents always had a problem with money. I would hustle, I would shovel drive ways, I had a news paper route and I would post garage sales with my own toys to contribute to the family, or at least not ask them for money. Money was always a big thing for me. It motivated me. I let it control how I would see myself!! Four years ago after working for a real estate mortgage firm and with the refi boom I was able to save up enough money and to open up my own mortgage company. I was 21 years old and I had a 5,000 sqft office fully furnished and I was making “lots of money.” All my dreams were coming true. I moved out, bought a big house, I bought a brand new sports car, I paid my mom’s house down, I bought my dad his truck he always wanted, I would go to a shopping mall and buy anything without looking at a price tag, I employed all my friends and they started making tons of money. We all worked hard but we all played hard too and NO WE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE REAL ESTATE CRISIS NOW. WE DID EVERYTHING LIGIT. I started growing up really fast and I was really consumed with all this money, partying and business. Finally I started realizing my dreams weren’t coming true at all. I was depressed, lonely and felt used by everyone. I couldn’t even trust my closest friends. All I wanted was true happiness and I thought money and having a lot of friends would bring such happiness. Then the unthinkable happened. I spent and lost everything….most of my savings, my company, my job, my friends and most importantly my identity. I didn’t know what to do. I was really depressed. I remember I was sitting at home playing around with you tube and stumbled upon this video that just made me break down and made a lot of sense. It was about how relationships, alcohol, drugs, money and even good looks can take you away into this dark black lonely hole but if you stay strong and fight you can find inner peace with yourself. Right there I surrendered and stopped feeling sorry for myself. I did whatever I could to climb out of this dark lonely place. I spent a lot of time alone asking myself certain questions. I started reading certain books such as “THE SECRET” “THE POWER OF NOW” and “AWAKENING TO YOUR LIFE’S PURPOSE” and a lot of other things like OPRAH and LANDMARK. I now even have a therapist and no I’m not crazy but it’s always nice to be able to open up to someone and not feel like you’re being jugged. I have come such a long way. I have grown and have become a man. It is consistent and ongoing personal and spiritual growth but I feel I am now aware of my own thoughts and what brings me happiness. I have and can now create my own identity.

Great quote

The Deepest Secret is that life is not a process of discovery, but a process of creation. You are not discovering yourself but creating yourself anew. Seek, therefore, not to find out Who You Are, seek to determine Who You Want to Be!

Delievering of toys to boys and girls. Normally I would go with a Platypus but that would hard to explain to Junior how they can go around the world in one night. I am now thinking a large Gallapagos turtle pulled by eight Emu’s and one ostrich with a red nose out front!!

I recently asked a question about my mother in law and listed the question below, but today when I tried to discuss how out of line his mother was with him he said she was right. I am a stay at home mom of two little boys. The only people I can talk to are my friends who don’t have kids or friends who are not going thru the things I am going thru plus my mother is never there for me, I feel as if I have no one, I feel like a bad mom, I feel like dying.
Recent Question and Info on this:
My husband and I just got married a month ago on the 10th, we been together 4 years prior and have had 2 little boys. My mother in law use to always come over unannounced which made me start to not like her at first, then every time she seen something wrong she always say how she would do things. Even though I didn’t like this and only mentioned it to my husband who was only my boyfriend at the time, I kept it to myself. She buys a lot of toys and clothes for my boys and I always shared things with her, and she always ask me to take her places, pick her up from work, cause she has no car or license, and we even brought her a $ 150 necklace for mothers day this year. But this is what I don’t get
1) I brought a dining room set for my house so my family could eat like a normal family at the Table instead of in front of the t.v.? She ask why ‘d I buy that table she said would t have got it.
2) She complains about the way I style my kids hair
3) She always is coming over to my house
4) She tells me I care more for my dogs than my children when I take my children everywhere, to the park to the museum, etc. I just gave my 3 year old a 0 B day Party which she ruined by trying to control it, I just spent 0 dollars on their christmas clothes, I teach them everyday, I read to them every night, and put classical music in their room to soothe them to sleep I am a good mother
5) Friday my dog died and she was mad because I shed tears over him and got into an argument with my husband about it which I decided to go for a walk to cool off so I wouldn t argue infront of my kids, She even threatened to call Children services on me for the house not being clean the way she like! I have a toddler and a 10 month old what the **** does she expect! I need help I am ready to get a divorce, because my husband has never seen that what she is doing is a problem and he never confronts her, I don t know what to do?

He said my son was gay for crying and he is only three, and even when she threaten me lastnight on the phone to call Chidren Services I held the phone and said nothing and she hung up on me. I have tried and tried the only thing I have not done is curse her out or raise my voice at her I respect my elders

A man has a penis and a woman has a vagina.

That’s true, but why do you think it’s obvious that they were "only" intended to go together?

Can ONLY a man and a woman make a baby? NO
Actually, a woman’s egg CAN be fertilized with genetic material from another woman’s egg. It’s called Parthenogenesis, and all of the science already exists.

here’s a link:

http://lesbianlife.about.com/cs/families…

(I back up my sources, you know I gots to protect my nerd cred)

Is it the most LOGICAL way to make a baby? well, there are scientific methods that are much more effective but, yes, it’s the most logical way to reproduce.

So that settles it right? because the only function of the genitals reproduction right? No.
The genitals are also used for urination and sexual pleasure. Sexual pleasure is not the same as reproduction (especially if you’re doing it right. Am I right guys? *high five*)

Urination is self-explanatory, so what’s up with sexual pleasure?

The clitoris (which is a woman’s primary source of orgasm) is located ABOVE the vagina, it CAN be stimulated with vigorous sexual activity
but that stimulation is not direct. If the couple is in the missionary position it is possible that the man’s body above the penis can give direct contact to the clitoris but that’s not the penis itself, and indeed the same results can be had with two women. The G-spot is located inside of the vagina but it is on the upper wall (it is actually stimulation of a woman’s urethra which is located above the vagina) so again the stimulation is not direct (and indeed many women report that vibrators and other toys designed for direct stimulation are much more pleasurable than a penis by itself, which makes sense when you consider that 90% of the nerve endings are in the outer third of the vagina, surgery can be performed without anesthetic on the inner two thirds here’s a link: http://health.discovery.com/centers/sex/…

On the other hand, a man has a prostate (a sexual organ which can be stimulated and lead to orgasm, matter of fact for you straight guys who are curious about how to stimulate it yourself here’s a link: http://www.prostate-massage-and-health.c…

you’re welcome, enjoy the other half of your sexuality, use it wisely)

A man’s prostate is located inside of his rectum at the exact place where a penis hits the wall of the rectum. The stimulation is direct.

What does this mean? It means that sexually, the penis seems more designed to bring sexual pleasure to another man than to a woman. I’m not trying to argue that penises and vaginas don’t go together, rather I’m saying that they serve other functions as well. It’s certainly debatable, it’s not OBVIOUS as many theists who argue against homosexuality would have you believe.

So why do they keep saying it?

They used to sell a helicopter toy on the discovery.com website. I am not sure if it was remote control, but it looked small and it came with some small boxes that it could pick up. It also seemed that the helicopter was attached to a platform, so it wouldn’t fly away.

If you know where I could find this toy, please let me know. Thanks

my daughter will be 6 months old tomorrow and just today she started actually pulling her legs up under her and getting her belly up off the ground and either supporting her upper body with her elbows or sometimes her hands with elbows strait then she will "lunge" for her toy that i put in front of her- she seems to love this new discovery because she has been doing it all day and it is so so cute!
About how long do you think it will take to master crawling?

My sister in law bought these last year (2009) I really want these shovels for my kids. Awesome product. I can’t find it. Can anyone help me? Discover Toys item 2398 Big Red Shovel.

Hi there,
I am looking for a small plush toy/finger puppet (whatever, as long as it’s under ) for a secret Santa? It needs to be in the Albany or close to (eg Glenfield, Westgate etc) area. If anyone could let me know what shop? Already planning on looking in Natures Discovery & Natures Window.

It will be a bunch of adult women, after 7 PM. I have 3 small kids and don’t have a TON of time to cook but would like something other than chips & salsa. I considered just grabbing a bunch of stuff from Costco but thought that was too lame. Any thoughts or ideas?

Sorry for the cutesie way i asked the question but this is the 5th time I’ve asked it so I’m trying to use American lingo to slip it past the Indian moderators

Morganie: lololololololol, you obviously didn’t bother to read this question I think it would help you understand more about your own biology if you did.
Dr. Joe: You certainly do claim to speak for god an awful lot, which is of course blasphemy if you believe in sin.

If you actually hear voices in your head that claim to be god you need to see a REAL doctor immediately. You are experiencing schizophrenia
I’m still level one btw so I can’t give out thumbs sorry guys
First of all, let me say that I never said that a penis was ONLY intended to pleasure another man. I said it’s intended for men AND women. YOU are the one making generalizations, and for some reason you seem to feel as though your manhood is being attacked and feel the need to lash out. Your parental investment protection theory I’ve heard before, and it’s interesting, and you may be right, but it doesn’t prove that a penis was only intended for a vagina.

As for semen coming out of the end of the penis, well, as I stated, reproduction is a function of the penis, but so is sexual pleasure, and pleasure is being perfectly accomplished when two sexual organs are stimulated together during the act. Seminal fluid can also be used as a lubricant during sex, So even the semen has a function in sex between two men
Let me apologize for the tone of that last statement, it’s late and I’ve pwning a lot of people tonight so I’m in a very defensive mode, your points are valid as are mine, and they both suggest that there is a grey area which is all I’m really saying

This is the toy that when you think harder the fan blows harder making the ball go up then there are these obstacle courses and it looks very cool. I think its from Discovery but i cant find it on the website. Any help? Link would be great

For those of you who watch "Jon and Kate Plus 8," do you think it was a mistake for them to get 2 German Shepherd pups as their first dogs ever? I think that they take pretty good care of the pups, but it seems as though they are rapidly becoming "outside dogs," and the female puppy already had to have surgery after swallowing one of the kids’ toys. The male is going to be huge, and I think that they need to start taking those pups to obedience class so the kids will be able to handle them. But really,I think that they should have gotten an easier – going breed for the kids, like Goldens or Labs or even two nice mutts. What do you think, and what do you think of the pups? They look pretty nice,at least they don’t have those horrific roach backs. Still, two GSDs for first time dog owners with 8 kids – I think it was a mistake.

http://tlc.discovery.com/tv/jon-and-kate/slideshows/puppies.html

shelterpuppies – I was hoping that they would get their puppies from a shelter, too. And yes,Kate is just too much of a neat freak and the puppies seem to be spending most of their time outside.I have not seen any doghouses for them, either, and it is still cold in Pennsylvania.Maybe they let them sleep inside when it is very cold or wet out. But being outside most of the time, they WILL bond to each other. They need to spend some one -on-one time with each puppy. One thing that is good is that apparently the kids are responsible for feeding the dog, which at least makes them a little assertive over them, but the male is going to be huge, and when he becomes a "teenager," there may be some challenges. I hope they have done their homework and can anticipate this. Maybe they should call on Victoria Stillwell! That would make some show! And I agree that GSDs are wonderful dogs, but they do need a lot of socialization and training. I too, hope that the dogs will be spayed and neutered.

Its blue and white. You put a small head piece on your head and focus on the ball the ball floats and you make it go through a series of courses. Whats it called and do you know how much money it is? Its made by Discovery….

I am thinking of buying my daughter a telescope for Christmas. She is 8 and loves science and math more then playing with toys. She watches the discovery channel with her Dad and I often. Because of her age though I don’t want to buy something too advanced until she really starts getting into it…I found one that seems to be more like a toy/beginner for kids kind of thing but I was wondering if anyone could tell me how powerful it actually is? Basically, before I spend on this thing is it a piece of crap or could it actually be kind of cool for her?

Jitters’ Journal

The terror of these past few weeks is almost more than I can bear; why is it that by writing words into this book I can somehow keep the madness at bay? Perhaps it is as if I’m confessing my sins to a silent companion, or freeing my mind of these tortured thoughts and confining them to paper.

I began a journal before this one, but it remains in a place to which I cannot return. So I will start afresh, but this time, I will start from the true beginning.

It began with the finding of that cursed scythe in the mine they call Roland’s Doom. Yes, that was the start of it. Before that, the *Defias Brotherhood was happy with our progress in Duskwood. Before the Scythe, the terrors of this place seemed as tame as Northshire Valley.

But ever since I found the haft of the Scythe jutting from that pile of rubble in the mine and, curse me, pulled it free, Roland’s Doom became a place of vile death!

If I had known what would happen, I would have cut off my own hand to keep from grasping that rune-carved wood. So many regrets! I always thought that was a privilege of old. I now know that it is not the old – it is the hopeless – who don the mantle of regret, unable and unwilling to shrug it from shoulders stooped with misery.

But enough waxing like a pipe-mad poet. I must continue with the chronicle…

After the Scythe was freed, a change rippled through the mine. Light from our flickering torches warped, and the strength of our voices seemed beyond our control. Sometimes a man’s whisper roared through the tunnels forcing hands on ears, and sometimes our shouts barely traveled a few steps before diminishing into a hint on the wind.

Unnerving, yes, but we did not have long to wonder at this strangeness. It was but a harbinger of what truly drove us from the mine, The Worgen**.

They came at us from everywhere, clawing from hidden holes at our feet and dropping upon us from silent perches above. Half our men fell in those first panicked minutes. The rest, including myself, tried to flee. As I ran I saw so many of my brothers taken by tooth and claw, heard so many screams cut short or gurgle to silence.

For all I know, I am the only human to escape that place.

I can only guess why I survived that night, I have always been quick to flinch from jabs and leap free of pitfalls. My nickname, Jitters, comes from this trait. So perhaps it was just that knack for caution that saved me…

Or maybe it was the Scythe I pulled from the rubble. It cannot be the Scythe itself, for I lost it during my frantic flight, But if it was I who brought the Worgen to Duskwood, then perhaps the Worgen afforded me a rare courtesy. Curse them.

Or perhaps, I am doomed to witness the change I wrought on Duskwood. Perhaps it is my fate to watch as the Worgen tear into this land, staining it ever darker with their foulness.

If that is truly my fate, then it is twofold, For the Worgen are not the only power to clutch at Duskwood – the fiends*** from Deadwind Pass have also staked claim.

That is the next chapter of my tale, and I pray it is the last.

After surviving the flight from Roland’s Doom, I hid within a barn owned by a man named Sven. I spent a few days in the barn, and such horror lingered with me that I never once made myself known to Sven or his family. But from what I saw from my hiding place, I knew these farmers quite decent folk, Had I stepped from my concealment I think they would have taken me in, but trust is hard for me. Harder still after that shock in the mine.

So I remained hidden. And it saved my life.

A few days after I arrived at the barn, Sven left his farm for Darkshire****. He kissed his wife and smiled to his children and promised to return soon with toys and sweets. The poor man. That was the last time he saw family unmutilated.

At least they parted happily. And at least his wife was the first to die, and was freed from seeing the slaughter of her children. But these small graces do nothing for me. I saw what happened. And it will ever haunt my dreams.

My hand trembles as I recall the details of that night, when Sven was away and his family doomed to face the Black Riders alone. Again, regret claws at me, for I was there and could have risen against those fiends from Deadwind Pass. But it is a false regret. It is the same that plagues any survivor of a tragedy. I know that, had I left my place of hiding I too would have been killed, my body ripped and torn, and its pieces spread so widely that I would not be recognized.

But, even though I know I could have done nothing to stop this heinous murder, one true regret does remain: I brought the Black Riders to Sven’s farm. My discovery of the Scythe not only unleashed the Worgen upon Duskwood – it drew the Riders from Deadwind Pass.

I know this because, just before they began their slaughter they asked one question
to Sven’s wife as she held her children close, giving them what comfort she could she was certain death was near.

"The Scythe of Elune," one of the Riders shrieked in a voice both harsh and shrill, like the grinding of an axe on stone. And the last word – Elune – it croaked, as if choking on the sound.

Dread gripping me when I heard the voice, both from the horrid sound of it, and because… I knew the Scythe of which the Rider spoke. It must be the same thing I drew from the rocks of Roland’s Doom days before. It was what the Black Riders sought!

And it was what would kill Sven’s family.

I never learned the name of Sven’s wife, as she was only ever called "dearest," and "my love," and "mommy" by her husband and children. But I wish I knew it, I am the only living memory of her deed that day, and although she was just a farmer’s wife, never have I seen a man or woman act with such bravery.

Of course she did not know of the Scythe, but when she learned the Riders sought it, in an
instant, a plan formed in her head.

And it was bold and clever, if only it had worked.

"The Scythe?" she said in a calm voice, "Of course I Do, Who here would not?" She looked at the Riders with steady eyes, and I would have sworn she spoke the truth if I had not known better, there was no way she could know about the Scythe.

Her gambit paid off. The same Rider who uttered the question before bent his head slightly toward her, and shrieked "Where?"

"I’ll take you, all of you." she said, and I could see a small hope flicker behind her eyes.

"But the way is far, and my children would slow us. We must leave them."

Her trick was simple, but simple tricks have the best hope of success. If it worked, it would lead the Riders away from the farm. She would be lost, but her children would be save. And it would work, if only the Riders believed her noble lies.
Although I have never been a student of the light, I prayed fiercely for Sven’s wife as she stood against those terrible Riders.

"Please," I prayed. "Let them believe."

They stood, frozen, and she met their gazes with calm. Then one rider looked up, as iff hearing a distant call. He drew from his garb, a small gem and peered into it. He then gestured with the bauble toward Sven’s wife. A Light crept from the Rider toward the woman, shaping itself into a grim, white hand. She stared into the light, unflinchinig, but I could see uncertainty behind her mask of confidence. When the hand rached her, it spread its fingers over her head.
And it squeezed.
Sven’s wife stood rigid as a board, and her eyes grew wide. And although her lips pulled back to mouth a scream, no sound escaped. After a few moments of this torture the hand released her, dropping her to her knees. The Rider who held the bauble then sat erect in his saddle, and a loud voice erupted from it.

"This woman lies." it said in a voice that has scarred my dreams. "She has not seen the Scythe."

After this, the Rider’s shoulders stooped slightly, as if a spirit within him had fled. And then in the old shrieking voice it used earlier, these final words were uttered:

"The Lord has spoken. Kill them."

I cannot describe what happened next. It is clear in my mind, but even my wretched soul cannot put to paper of those next few, grisly minutes.

I can only write that Sven’s family was killed. And soon after, Sven returned to this grim, deathly scene. Such grief was in him that I was afraid to show myself. And so afraid was I that he would find me, I fled from my hiding spot in
the barn. I do not know where Sven is now, but I pray he will, some day, find peace.

I spent the next few weeks moving from place to place, never lingering for frear of the Riders. I am now in the abandoned town of Raven’s Hill. As always, hiding. I cannot face whatever power they used against Sven’s wife, and I know it searches Duskwood, even still, for the Scythe. It is lost to me, and I thank the Light for this, for had I kept it, I know I would have been found. Even now, I know in my heart that I will be found.

I’m so tired…

ok, for christmas this year, my parents and i are doing something different, we are adopting 2 little kids for a day, they are siblings, one is a little boy of 7, amd his sister is 2. one of them is really ill something i don’t know yet, and there parents are dead, for reasons i don’t know either.

i got the little girl down, but i’m wondering what toy i should give the little boy?
he said he likes things involving science, and sharks.

now, i want you guys to post as many shark and science toys as possible that are under 50 dollars.
i’m even paying for the stuff myself, i want this to be his best chrismas ever.
please help, i don’t know if the kid that’s sick is terminally ill, so i want the gift to be really special. p.s. , i’ve tried the discovery store, everything there never works. if its a water toys, they always make sure it leaks.

it can be any type of toy, but keep in mind that the boy might be the sick one, so nothing like water blasters or outdoor stuff, and i dont know about computer games or dvds, they are hospitalized orphans, so please keep in mind of those facts k? i’m not sure how it works, but i don’t think they have access to tv or computers

Urgent Notice: Potential Danger of Dog Hair…..?
In a press release today, the National Institute of Health has announced the discovery of a potentially dangerous substance in the hair of dogs. This substance, called "amobacter caninii" has been linked with the following symptoms in females: Reluctance to cook, clean or do housework, a reluctance to wear make-up, good clothes or high heels heels. Reluctance to spend money on home or car repairs until after ‘Baby’ has new collars, leashes, beds, treats, food, blankets or toys.

"Amobacter caninii" usually results in long hours away from home and exhaustion which may lead to a loss of physical contact with other humans (especially husbands and boyfriends). "Amobacter caninii" is thought to be addictive, driving the need for additional sources – this may lead to a "pack mentality" or like the potato chip commercial, "you can’t have just one". Beware! If you come in contact with a female human infected by this substance, be prepared to talk about dogs for hours.

Surgeon General’s Warning: Dogs are expensive, addictive, and may impair the ability to use common sense.
